Hate to say I told ya so. At 4:22 PM today, NESN released a statement announcing Heidi’s departure (http://tinyurl.com/7nmkccw). Sad day for Sox Nation, sad day indeed. Just add this to the list of offseason duties the Sox need to take care of come April. We’re going to miss you Heidi…
Welp, it looks like Epstein is making moves on Red Sox prospects before they have a chance. Theo just snagged Milwaukee hitting coach, Dale Sveum, from the Red Sox short list of manager potentials, many saying that this was the Sox’s top choice. Now, besides the fact that this guy’s name is Dale and he has a whopping 7-5 record in his managerial career, I’m pretty excited to see how this guy can turn around one of the most dismal franchises in the MLB. He knows how to win – 2 championships in 2004 and 2008 – and he turned the Brewers into a hitting machine and a playoff team.
What does this mean for the Red Sox? Seeing how their prospective manager list is pretty dismal and none of their top three prospects have real managerial experience in the majors, I think it’s time to open up the interview process again. Now, Francona didn’t get hired until December in ’03, but after last season they need to bring in somebody who can raise the clubhouse drinking age to 40 so Varitek is the only one who can consume. And someone who can actually convert superstars into winners.
On a side note, new Sox GM Ben Cherington is heading out of the country for a much needed breather. Wait a second…who is Ben Cherington and what has he done so far?

Losing to Lebron James and the Heat is always a tough loss to swallow, but life goes on. The C’s continue their road trip tonight in Orlando against the likes of Dwight Howard and company. Nothing like back to back marquee games before heading home. Should be a good one to watch.
I know that everyone is getting sick of the NBA lockout and Penn St. scandal stories, but let’s face it, the rest of the sports world is pretty boring right now unless someone gets shot or something (praying for a Yankee or Jet player). News surfaced yesterday that they have no police record from assistant coach Mike Mcqueary about the alleged assaults on a 10 year old boy. However, it is rumored that the university officers knew of this and also might have ignored it to an extent. The whole situation is becoming more annoying and more confusing with every new piece of evidence introduced. Maybe they should burn down the school and start from scratch? As long as they kill Sandusky first. I see this as the only viable option to be able to push this out of the news.
On a side note: #9 Pittsburg loses to Long Beach State which is downright hilarious.. that would be like the Red Sox losing to the Orioles (Sorry Nons). How about we make the NCAA the new NBA seeing as the players don’t all care about making an extra million dollars and owners don’t exist.
So after I wrote about Heidi potentially leaving the other night, I tweeted at her and attached a link to the post on BSB. Two minutes later, she posted the tweet above. Heidi Watney must have read the Boston Sports Blog right? I’m going to keep telling myself yes. Anyways, there’s been no official word but all signs point to her leaving. Unfortunately, it’s not looking good folks. She fooled me for a minute and came back with a quick response to cover her tracks, but I have knowledge that leads me to believe otherwise. Trust me, I hope I’m wrong just as much as the next Red Sox fanatic, but you heard it here first. We’d hate to see you go Heidi.
Unless you’ve been living in Sandusky’s basement for the last few months (too soon?), you’re well acquainted with the NBA lockout situation. Every negotiation has gone from bad to worse and recent news offers almost no hope for a season. However, this monumental collapse has actually overshadowed another extremely critical and game-changing agreement in the MLB.
ESPN.com and almost every other sports publication has attached itself to the Penn State shenanigans, the lockout and the start of college hoops. Simultaneously, an agreement is on the verge of being signed between the MLB and its players that will literally revamp the entire ballgame – I think for the better. According to ESPN, the MLB is about to “realignment of the sport into two 15-team leagues, adding a second wild-card team in each league, spreading interleague play throughout all six months of the regular season and making significant changes to the draft, free agency.”
Whoa now, I like what I’m hearing. Two wild card teams per league basically means that there will be 3 playoff teams from the AL East (one of which will naturally be the Orioles). Nonetheless, it’s great to see a league actually be productive in the offseason. Following one of the most pure baseball years all time, it’s fantastic to see them trying to improve.

It’s been quite the week so far for the Boston Sports Blog. If the Celts aren’t going to be playing, someone has to make moves. With two new acquisitions, the Boston Sports Blog now has it’s own Big Three. Chris came on to write yesterday, and today I want to introduce Nolan Kartholl (@NolanKartholl), self-proclaimed alias: Big Nons. Nolan has a ton of insight on the different aspects of sports and business that will add a unique outlook to the site. He’s also a diehard Orioles fan, so feel free to express your most sincere apologies to him.
The big story of today is about multiple athletes from the New York area partying in a night club where multiple shots were fired. This begs the question: Why couldn’t Eli have been there? My theory is that Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg again and everyone went crazy. Either that or people were still bitter that both the Jets and Giants lost this weekend and found out that both of their quarterbacks are grossly overrated. Soon after beginning to write this, I realized that only good athletes were allowed to be in the night club. (Kemba Walker, Shane Battier, John Wall, Russell Westbrook) Too bad they didn’t have any games to play…
Now it’s only natural for teams across the league to be gunning for the reigning Stanley Cup Champions, but after a 3-7 start you can assume that desire began to dwindle. The B’s were looking more like the Nets of the NHL than a team eager to defend their title. As of late, things have begun to turn around. November has been a solid month so far for the reigning Stanley Cup champions (much better than for the NBA). The Bruins knocked off the New Jersey Devils last night to improve their November winning streak to six games. Back on the successful track, you can put money on the fact that the flame to take down the champs has once again been fully ignited. Aside from the win streak, the B’s have been physically dominating teams, incurring a few controversial headlines (cough Lucic) along the way. You best believe that teams are itching to get their shot at the Bruin’s now, especially come November 23rd when the B’s step on the ice in Buffalo.
The red hot Celtics are bringing their talent to South Beach tonight in a highly anticipated national broadcast against Lebron James and the Heat, who also have yet to see a loss. The C’s aim to shut down LJ and Wade en route to snagging their 3rd straight win on the road and 7th overall. With two explosive offenses, this should be a high scoring event. Clear your schedule for the evening. You’re not going to want to miss this one!
