Coach K Making History

Coach K of the Duke men’s basketball team looks to become the winningest coach in Division 1 Men’s Basketball tonight against Michigan State.  Although I am by no means a Duke fan, I respect the way he coaches because he can win championships and doesn’t feel the need to talk smack. In other words, the total opposite of Rex Ryan’s style of losing and putting his foot in his mouth. (No pun intended, but completely intended)

He looks to win his 903rd game and pass Bob Knight with help from his new star, Austin Rivers.  So for one night, and one night only, I will be rooting for the Blue Devils.  Hey, if it weren’t for GayGay Reddick I may have started liking them a long time ago.

Heidi, Say It Aint So!

My heart sank when I came across this news, but the Boston Globe reported earlier today that Tito, Theo, and Papelbon may not be the only ones on their way out of Boston. Red Sox in-game reporter, Heidi Watney, is coming up on the end of her contract later this month and inside sources have hinted that she may be calling it quits with the Sox after four years of loyal service. Now, there are no reports to the truth of this, but the mere thought is enough to completely demoralize the already depression struck Red Sox Nation. Thank God the Bruins are back on track and the Pats are in good shape for the rest of the season because I don’t think I can take much more bad news from the other two teams without slipping into a world of misery. Heidi, say it aint so!

Drum Roll, Please

Introducing Chris Anderson (@Christoph131), the newest author to the Boston Sports Blog. He took a look at the site, liked it, and wanted to help out. So in about a 5 minute span, here he is. Chris has been my boy for as long as I can remember, not to mention he knows way more about college sports than I do. With that said, he’ll be focusing on college sports. Check back shortly for his inaugural post.

The Looch Crew

This whole Lucic thing from the other night is killin’ me. I follow hockey and am a huge Bruins fan, but basketball is definitely my “go-to” winter sport. So stop me if I’m wrong, but don’t hockey players pride themselves in how much tougher they are than any other athlete? Although not how I’d state it, I definitely do respect hockey players for that aspect of the game. That being said, how can Ryan Miller come out and complain about a hit that resulted in a minor penalty. Did he think he could come about 20 feet out of the net to try and stop a Lucic breakaway without suffering the consequences? I love the mentality of playing tough and physical in any sport if you want to win. Since Miller came well out of his crease to play the puck like a defender, he’s going to get treated like a defender, especially with the Looch coming at you. Anyways, Lucic has a hearing with the NHL today at 1pm to determine if they’ll be any consequences for the hit. With the NFL implementing all these new hitting rules, I’ll be disappointed in the NHL as well if they make a big deal out of this. Never more fitting than in this situation…It’s just part of the game. NO EASY BUCKETS!

B’s Back on Track – Thanks Tyler

A bottle of blue Gatorade and some Advil on the nightstand was all it took, as the B’s quickly cured their Cup hangover and are again thirsty for victory. The young Tyler Seguin has stepped up his play immensely this season, leading the team in both overall points and goals while claiming the NHL’s first Star of the Week today. Last season he ended the year with 11 goals and 11 assists. Not bad for a Rookie who also contributed to bringing home Lord Stanley’s most prized possession. This year, only 15 games in, he has already racked up 11 goals and 9 assists for 20 points, 1 figure more than his age. Begs the question: What am I doing with my life?

P-A-T-S…PATS, PATS, PATS!

Tonight the Patriots capped off a solid weekend for Boston sports fans. The Bruins continued their much needed hot streak, and the Pat’s refused to lose their third straight to take their rightful position atop the AFC East. For the first time all season both sides of the ball came out firing, shutting up Rex Ryan and the overrated J-E-T-S. If we play out the season this way, we won’t be stopped. On a side note, it’s always good to see Eli fail miserably. Anyways, great overall Sunday of football.

Celtics Game Day – Mock Season

After starting the weekend off right Friday night against the Clippers, the C’s went to visit the Cav’s for the second time in this early season. The boys looked a bit sluggish in the first half, most likely from the overnight travel and back to back games. Either way they manned up in the second and pulled through for the routine win.

Papel-Bon Voyage

So just like that Papelbon’s off to the Phillies. Personally, I don’t like this move at all. Sure he hasn’t been as dominant as he has been in previous years, but come on! He wasn’t involved in the infamous chicken and beer scandal of the century; he was just posted up in the bullpen waiting to do his thing. It just so happened that come September we didn’t enter the 9th with a lead so he couldn’t get out there. I think it’s a mistake to get rid of him. And to the Phillies nonetheless? I mean they’ve been alright the past few years but we don’t need to help them get any better. Questionable move at best. Sox have to come up with something big before April…we’re going to need it.
