C’s Top Knicks

For those of you who decided to look at other channels after the blowout in the National Championship Game last night, may have caught a glimpse of a Celtics team that we have learned to love. The C’s won their third straight, and this one was against the division leader, the Knicks. The Green and White traveled to Madison Square Garden and came out on top 101-96, with 5 players scoring in double digits.avery-bradley3

With Rondo suspended for a game for bumping into a ref, like an idiot, the Celts had to play with Avery Bradley at the point. Bradley, Garnett, Sullinger, Pierce, and Green all scored in double digits. Pierce led the way with 23 points. The Celtics held Carmelo to only 20 points, which was huge.

The scary part for me is that Terry only had 2 points on 1-7 shooting. He has failed to reach double digits in the 4 games that we have played in 2013, after doing it for most of the season prior to the last four games. Although the Celtics were outrebounded as usual, most of our players still finished in the + column. Boston is 3-1 since the return of Avery Bradley

C’s Pick It Up

The Celtics won both games that they played this weekend, topping the Pacers 94-75 and the Hawks 89-81. The C’s are currently sitting at one game below .500 (16-17) and take on the Knicks, who are second place in the East.

On Friday, against the 19-14 Pacers, Kevin Garnett scored 18 points and grabbed 7 boards before being ejected for scuffling with Tyler Hansbrough. Rondo added 18 while dm_130104_nba_celtics_pacers_highlightPierce and Courtney Lee both scored 13. Jared Sullinger had 10 rebounds (4 offensive).

On Saturday, against the 20-12 Hawks, the C’s had a tougher task. After being down most of the game, they came back on Rondo’s back. Rajon had a triple-double with 14 Points, 10 Assists, and 11 Rebounds. Paul Pierce scored 26 points while grabbing 9 boards and Sullinger added 8 Points, 9 Rebounds.

C’s Continue to Slump

The Celtics lost their 4th straight game last night when the Memphis Grizzlies came to town, but there is some good news. Avery Bradley is now back and said that he felt great out there. However, the rest of the team didn’t seem to be feeling it. We were out-rebounded 39-27 and only 4 C’s registered double-digits in points. Garnett had 12, Pierce had 17 (both of them had 7 rebounds), Jeff Green had 10 points off the bench, and Rondo contributed 11 points and 10 assists. This is only the 3rd game out of the last 8 that Rondo has registered double-digit assists, after doing it virtually every game at the beginning of the season while chasing Magic Johnson’s record. Memphis is a great team, but we need to play a lot better than this if we want to get anywhere.

timthumb.phpThe Celtics are 2-8 in their last 10 games and sitting on the outside of the playoffs looking in. They are now 14-17, which is a shocker to all of those who know how talented this team is. We need to turn it around and send a message this Friday when we play the Indiana Pacers who are currently in 4th place in the East and have a 19-13 record. They are 8-2 in their last 10 and allow only 90 PPG which is 2nd in the league behind the Grizzlies.

C’s Win

The Celtics made it a great Christmas Classic yesterday afternoon, beating the Brooklyn Nets 93-76. There was another scuffle, the second of the season against this team, after KG and Wallace got into it. It didn’t get as big as the first time when Rondo made Humphrkg wallaceies look like a girl and everyone got ejected basically. Rondo had 19 points but only 5 assists, which was weird to watch. Paul Pierce and KG each only had 8 points so that probably explains it, but Pierce was the leader with 10 assists. I would like to know when the last time Rondo played and wasn’t the team leader in assists.

Jeff Green had a big game with 15 points, while Jared Sullinger scored 16 on 6 of 7 shooting while grabbing 7 boards. The C’s are now one game above .500 but it will be tough to stay that way when they visit the Clippers on the west coast Thursday night. The Clips are currently riding a 14 game win streak. Hope everyone had a good Christmas!

Should We Worry?

Overall, the Boston Celtics are 12-11. They are right in the middle, sitting in 15th place overall out of 30 teams. This is not the Celtic’s team that we have come to know and love. Kevin GarnettThe season is just over 1/3rd of the way over, and we are not getting any better. The C’s, who are usually one of the better defensive teams, are allowing 97.9 PPG. This stat isn’t as bad as some, except for one fact:  We aren’t scoring. We are only averaging 97.4 PPG. I’m no math wiz, but I’d say those numbers are going to have to improve if we want any chance to beat the big teams of the East this season (New York, Miami, Atlanta).

We don’t have an easy schedule coming up either. We play the Bulls in Chicago on Tuesday, then come back home to play the Cav’s and Buck’s, both of which have shown that they can put up serious points. Then we take on the Net’s on Christmas, and the Clippers two days after that. Sitting just one game above .500, the C’s need to find a way to get some W’s.

The only consistMiami Heat v Boston Celtics - Game Fourent scorer this season has been Captain Paul Pierce, who is averaging 19.7 PPG. Rondo is scoring lower and lower each game, but if he can keep getting 12-15 assists per game, they should be okay. Garnett is shooting around 50% lately, but doesn’t play enough minutes to put up any serious numbers. Meanwhile, Jason Terry has been big off the bench, but still has not found his stroke on the 3-pointers, something we have been lacking since Ray Ray took his talents to South Beach.

C’s Weekend Recap

The Celtics dropped two games this weekend, both against quality teams, and the games imagescat1wg6eweren’t that close. On Friday night, The C’s lost to the Rocket’s 101-89 behind Harden’s 21 points and bench player Greg Smith’s 20 points.  Paul Pierce played 41 minutes and was able to contribute 18 points, 7 rebounds, while everyone else seemed rather flat. Garnett put in 14, Rondo put in 15 and added 13 assists, but we were out played badly.

On Saturday night, they Green and White took on one of the best teams in the league, the San Antonio Spurs. For the first half, it looked like this would be a game. That ended about halfway through the third quarter. Garnett only put in 13, Rondo had 6 points, and failed to reach double digit assists with 9. Sullinger had a team Boston Celtics at San Antonio Spurshigh 7 rebounds off the bench, and Jason Terry had a huge first half and managed to score 18 points total, even though he slowed down significantly in the second half. Parker put in 22 for the Spurs while Gary Neal was able to score 20, as the Spurs improved to 19-6.

Celtics Cap Mavericks in Double OT

Boston Beats Dallas: The Boston Celtics came away with a victory against the Dallas Mavericks last night in nail-biting double overtime fashion. The C’s beat the Mavs 117-115 at the Garden, thanks in part to a pair of Courtney Lee free throws in the game’s final seconds.

Lee’s made free-throws sealed the deal for Boston. Had Lee missed both of them, Dallas guard OJ Mayo’s 24 foot 3-pointer at the buzzer would have tied the game and forced a 3rd OT. Instead Mayo’s heroics were too little too late and behind Paul Pierce’s 34 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals the Celtics managed to sweat out a win.

Rajon Rondo also turned in a top performance for Boston with a double-double of 16 points and 15 assists. Rondo was a rebound shy of pulling off a triple double with 9 rebounds in the game.

Dallas’ top performers: OJ Mayo led the Mavericks in scoring with 24 points to go along with 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Shawn Marion also performed well with 16 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 blocks.

Fun Facts From the Game:With a score in the games first overtime, C’s forward Paul Pierce surpassed 23,000 points for his career. Pierce becomes only the 25th player in NBA history to reach 23,000 points.

Also, six Celtics players scored in double figures in this one. Pierce 34pts, Rondo 16pts, Kevin Garnett 16pts, Jeff Green 15pts, Jason Terry 10pts, and Chris Wilcox 10pts.

Back to Back Wins for Boston:With the win over Dallas, the Celtics are now the winners of two straight games. Boston will look to build off this win, and improve on their 12 and 9 overall record, as they hit the road to face Jeremy Lin, James Harden, and the Houston Rockets this Friday at 8pm from the Toyota Center.

C’s vs. Mav’s Preview

The C’s take on the Mavericks tonight and it should be quite a game. Not for the normal reasons though. Usually, both teams are on top of their divisions, or close to it, but not this time. So far the Mavs are 11-10 while the Celtics are 11-9. However, they have an excuse, with Dirk Nowitzki being out all season. We have had the luxury of having most guys healthy (except Rondo missing 2 and a half games), but still can’t seem to click.

gty-154249437-3_4_r560This marks the first time that Jason Terry will play against his former team where he won a championship and a sixth-man of the year award. Meanwhile, newcomer O.J. Mayo has taken over the scoring lead in Dallas, averaging 20.8 PPG. Dallas is currently riding a 3 game winning streak, where Mayo dropped 40 points against the Rockets and 23 against the Suns.

For the C’s, Pierce leads the way with 19.2 PPG while Garnett is averaging 16.0 and Rondo puts in 13.0 of his own to go along with 12.8 assists. The game is at the Garden tonight at 8:00 PM. Go Celts

D-Will Hires Own Reporters

Do you hate the Brooklyn Nets? Maybe it’s because they still smell like the Dirty Jersey, or even that they have Kris Humphries, or maybe it’s some other reason. But if you like them, you may have to re-evaluate things after this. Deron Williams has hired his own beat reporter to cover him, and only him. Yes, that’s right. Williams thinks that he does not get enough recognition or highlights. The site will be revolved all around him. He says it is only going to be 90% about him, but still, that’s crazy. Kobe tried this before but to a lesser extent.elite-daily-deron-williams-brooklyn

Do you think it is ridiculous that a player would do this? Do you think it shows how self-centered and conceited he is? I think it proves that he cares more about himself than he does his team. He doesn’t care about winning a championship, he wants money and fame. Do you agree?

Did the Spurs do something wrong?

Possible sanctions loom against the San Antonio Spurs. Head Coach Greg Popovich sent Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, and Danny Green back to Texas to rest for their game against the Grizzlies, rather than play them in a national televised game against the Miami Heat. Commissioner David Stern apologized to fans and said that sanctions will be forthcoming.

Lebron didn’t seem too upset about them not playing, as the Heat only won 105-100 on a last minute 3-pointer by Ray Allen.  I can understand why Pop would do this, as his team played 4 games in 5 nights, and they are an older team, much like the Celtics. It’s just weird to think about the fact that the Grizzlies are scaring the Spurs more than the Heat. But they are playing unbelievable basketball over in Memphis.

What do you think?
