Weekend Recap

Amidst the turkey comas and holiday hangovers, Thanksgiving weekend was good to us Boston sports fans. Let’s recap: Despite losing a tough one via shootout, the Bruins are 11-1 in their last 12 games, one point back of the lead in the Northeast Division. The Pats walked into Philadelphia and crushed the playoff hopes of the alleged “Dream Team” as they continue to find themselves seated atop the AFC East. It may not have been from the Celts directly, but the NBA made all fans happy as it looks like the Celtics will have a season, meaning I can finally stop writing up mock game day posts. Unfortunately, nothing groundbreaking from the Sox, but I guess with the way things have been going for them lately, no news is good news. Happy Monday!

Gronk Nation

From the beginning we knew Gronk was an animal. As Barstool put it, “It’s Gronk’s world, we’re just living in it”. There’s no doubt he had a great time during the lockout and partied like the best of ’em, but it was a question as to how his off-field presence would transfer over come game time. Last night, Gronk answered that question and left no doubt in anyone’s mind as to how much of an absolute beast he really is. With his 20th career TD reception in 26 NFL games, Gronkowski became the fastest TE to reach that mark in NFL history, right ahead of Ditka (31 games). In doing so, the Pats turned a slow start into a good old fashion beat down last night in Foxboro. Oh, not to mention Gronk also shrugged off a broken neck to pop the ball like a balloon in the end zone. No biggie.

P-A-T-S…PATS, PATS, PATS!

Tonight the Patriots capped off a solid weekend for Boston sports fans. The Bruins continued their much needed hot streak, and the Pat’s refused to lose their third straight to take their rightful position atop the AFC East. For the first time all season both sides of the ball came out firing, shutting up Rex Ryan and the overrated J-E-T-S. If we play out the season this way, we won’t be stopped. On a side note, it’s always good to see Eli fail miserably. Anyways, great overall Sunday of football.

Sunday Woes

I’ve been putting off commenting on Sunday’s game vs. the Giants. It’s not that we lost that I’m aggravated. Although below our expectations, the Pats are still sitting atop the AFC East alongside the Jets and the Bills. It’s not that Brady threw three picks or that Stephen Gostkowski missed a field goal from 4 feet away. It’s the fact that we added to the ever growing ego of “Mr. Close Your Eyes Toss the Ball”. I despise Peyton Manning along with most Bostonians, but we can admit he’s a premier quarterback. I despise Eli Manning along with most Bostonians because he thinks he can fall in the same category as his brother and Brady (and because of some other minor event that occurred which I will chose not to bring up). Regardless, we need to step our game up. The first half was clearly a defensive battle, with the Pats showing signs of life on that side of the ball for the first time all season. Then finally once the offense decided to come around, the defense backed off yet again. It’s only a matter of time before Belichick pulls them together though. Pats vs. Packers in the bowl.
