Starting today, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America will begin voting for MLB Hall of Famers which will be announced in early January. However, it is projected to be the most controversial ballot since Pete Rose was ruled ineligible for betting. The reason is simple: Steroids….

Praising the Wrong Person
After Peyton Manning beat the Chiefs 17-9 on Sunday, their two biggest stars (both on my awful fantasy team) Jamaal Charles and Dwayne Bowe remained star-struck. Jamaal Charles sat outside and waited for Manning to leave the locker room and asked for an autograph for his mom, while Dwayne Bowe posed for a picture with Manning. Bowe said, “It’s Peyton Manning, who wouldn’t want a picture with him?”
Bowe is playing in most likely his final season as a Chief, as he is under the Franchise Tag and has demanded trades all season. He even admitted that he would love to catch a ball or two from the future Hall of Famer. A few former Chiefs are pretty upset, and I’m sure there will be more.
What do you think? Is this as bad as it seems?
Issues with Fireman Ed’s Departure
By now I’m sure you’ve all heard the big news out of New York…Fireman Ed has stepped down. The stereotype of an arrogant New York fan, who celebrates rooting for the most embarrassing franchise in the NFL, has had enough, writing a formal resignation letter to the public.
I’ve got two issues with this letter. First and most clearly – the statement of his regarding “the greatest chant in all of sports”. Alright. A humorous statement to say the very least. I think he has that mistaken with the most ridiculed chant in all of sports. I don’t even remember the last time Jets fan were cheering anything but “Put Tebow in!” Actually, J – E – T – S, Suck! Suck! Suck! is arguably more popular than both.
Second, it’s clear that this has been one of the most controversial times for the Jets, but they’ve had worse seasons. Fireman Ed, or I guess just Ed now, is putting the blame on his own constituents, claiming he has had enough of the ridicule regarding the Sanchez vs. Tebow debate. My issue lies in the fact that you know he’ll be back. Enough with the dramatic exit. Maybe not this year, but hypothetically speaking, if the Jets win the first two games next season, Rex will claim they are going to win the Superbowl and Ed will be once again known as Fireman Ed. Can’t take the heat when things get tough but one sign of a decent season and Ed will be back. Cowardly if you ask me. His team needs him now more than ever and he’s bailing on them. I mean I love what happened Thanksgiving night, don’t get me wrong. But at least give us some sort of competition. I’m ashamed for you Ed. SuperFat would stick with the Pats through thick and thin. Step your shit up.

BCS Shakedown: Upsets Bring Big Changes to the Championship Race
Upset City: Just when Kansas State and Oregon thought it was safe to drive on their roads to the National Championship game, Baylor and Stanford threw up road blocks and hard.
By now we all know The Wildcats (upset by Baylor 52-24) and the Ducks (upset by Stanford 17-14) have been taken on a detour to their new BCS destinations…one of the four other BCS Bowls. So, with that said, here’s a look at the new top four in the BCS Standings:
BCS Top 4: As of November 18th: 1. Notre Dame 2. Alabama 3. Georgia 4.Florida
Both Kansas State and Oregon fell out of the top four and are now sitting and sulking in their new BCS spots. Oregon is now ranked fifth with K-State ranked sixth. As mentioned in my last BCS article, this is exactly what Alabama and Notre Dame wanted to and needed to happen, in order for a shot at the title game.

With the upsets to K-state and Oregon, Notre Dame simply has to beat USC and their a lock for the title game. Bama meanwhile, just needs to beat Auburn and defeat either Georgia/Florida in the SEC championship game at seasons end. If Notre Dame and Bama win out, they will finish as the number one and number two ranked teams in the country and will play for all the marbles in Miami.

BCS Bowl Breakdown: With such a seismic shift in the BCS Standings, here’s a look at the new BCS Bowl Series Projections as predicted by ESPN’s Mark Schlabach and Brad Edwards:
1. Discover BCS National Championship: Georgia vs Notre Dame (Schlabach’ pick) Alabama vs Notre Dame (Edwards’ pick)
2. The Rose Bowl: Nebraska vs Stanford (picked by both)
3. Allstate Sugar Bowl:LSU vs Clemson (Schlabach’ pick) Florida vs Oklahoma (Edwards’ pick)
4. Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma vs Oregon (Schlabach’ pick) Kansas State vs Oregon (Edwards’ pick)
5. Discover Orange Bowl: Florida State vs Rutgers (picked by both)
Here’s a link to the other bowl projections: http://espn.go.com/college-football/bowls/projections?season=2012
Final Thoughts: Seeing as I’m now 0-2 in calling the BCS National Championship outcome, I’m just going to leave it up to the fans on this one. What do you think will happen? Who do you have winning it all? Leave a comment below.
Red Sox Could Sign Outfielder Jonny Gomes Soon
Shipping Up to Boston: The Boston Red Sox continue to stay busy this off-season as recent reports indicate the Sox and free agent outfielder Jonny Gomes are close to finalizing a two year contract. Financial terms have not yet been disclosed.
Gomes would certainly offer depth to the outfield and is regarded as a leader throughout the MLB, both on the field and in the clubhouse. Gomes would also provide needed experience back in the warning track as he’s a 10 year veteran. He played well for the Oakland Athletics last season batting .262 with 18HR and 47RBI. Gomes is a career .244 hitter with 136 HR, and 411 RBI.

Fun Fact: Jonny Gomes has similar career numbers against lefties to that of 2012 Red Sox outfielder/ current free agent Cody Ross.
Gomes against left handed pitchers: .284AVG, .382 OBP, and .512OPS
Ross against left handed pitchers: 284, 353OBP, 575OPS
If nothing else signing Gomes for cheap (much like the Sox did with cather David Ross) will provide needed flexibility to the outfield for little cost. Also to be noted, the BoSox are still working to try and resign Ross. If the Sox could get Gomes and Ross, the outfield would be in good, possibly even great, shape for next season.
Final Thoughts: I want to hear from the Fenway Faithul. Who do you think the Red Sox should go after next? Should the Red Sox take a stab at a high-dollar free agent this off-season? Leave a comment below.
Jack Taylor of Grinnell Drops 138
If you haven’t seen it all over ESPN or heard it on the radio this morning, here it is. Jack Taylor of Grinnell dropped 138 points last night in their D3 matchup against Faith Baptist Bible. You read that correctly. I don’t mean to stereotype, but the small, white point guard of a college basketball team scored 138 points on his own en route to winning 179-104. Obviously this will make headlines because, well, 138 points is usually closer to the over/under of a college basketball game let alone what one team even puts up. But 138 for one player? That’s just unheard of. Granted the kid did take 108 shots. A bit Kobe-esque if you ask me. He was averaging a shot every 20 seconds. Straight selfish. I mean at what point, with your team up by 70 points, was the coach thinking, alright Taylor, I think a hundy spot is solid. Good game kid, why don’t you grab some pine. While that might have been the normal thing to do, I’ll give the coach some credit here. We live in the land of the free, let the kid play it out. Why hold him to 100 when he can clearly put up 38 more?…’Merica!
With that said and after watching the video, there’s no doubt his performance was impressive. But the question is, was it more selfish than impressive? What do you think?

An Ontario lawyer has purchased a toilet from the dressing room of the Maple Leafs hockey team. He paid $5,300 at an auction for this porcelain prize. The Garden which housed this toilet was opened from 1931-99, and was one of more than 100 items that went up for auction. He said he wants to sit on it, light a Cuban up and drink some Scotch while watching a game.![]()
