New Season, New Rules

Three things as a result of the shortened NBA season:

1. John Wall will have his coming out party. Due the fact that this kid has more athleticism than just about anyone who has entered the league in the last decade – besides Yoa Ming of course – the shortened season will help him come out of the gates hot. Building off of his incredible second half performance last year, 17+ points and 8+ assists per game( look it up), this guy is going to come out of the gates like Seabiscuit.

2. Oklahoma City will cruise. Okay, so everyone is talking about how the shortened season will benefit the vets because they will have more poise and know how to manage the ups and downs better. With that being said, I am very excited to see how the San Antonio Spurs – who have a mean age of 46 – are going to hold up with back-to-back-to-back games. I love the Spurs, don’t get me wrong, but Oke City is young, fast, and healthy. These guys have the mojo and the scorers to flat out beat teams with their pace.

3. The Miami Heat will win the NBA Title. I mean, I know how much everyone out here loves Lebron… why wouldn’t you? This guy knows how to make a classy exit, perform in the 4th quarter and announce the unprecedented 8-peat – what’s not to like? Son of a bitch. Okay seriously now, I hate to announce it here on BSB, but I can’t get away from it. The shortened season, coupled with the fact that the Heat gelled late last year is a recipe for success. The 66 games will give guys like Dwayne Wade, who still have some left in the tank, the ability to push themselves more down the stretch. Athleticism and the ability to stay injury free will be critical this season.

It may be “un-BSB” of me to post this, but I’m a Pacer fan (at least we have Larry Bird), so I really have no hope whatsoever.

To: NBA Fans – Love: D. Stern

First of all, did anyone even know the two sides were meeting today? Did anyone care? Yeah, me neither, but at 3 am I find out 15 hours of meetings have ended in a joint press conference? Good news! Silver and hunter together. It’s on!! Minutes until the announcement is made but it looks like a season will start on December 25….Merry Christmas!

End of the Road

Just like everyone else, I’m sick and tired of all the lockout nonsense. I’ve officially hopped off the “hopeful” band wagon and moved onto the hopeless one. With the reality of not having NBA games this winter, you have to wonder if it’s the end of the road for the Big Three. It kills me to even touch on this subject, but both KG and Ray Allen aren’t signed on for the 2012-13 season. That has to set off an alarm for Celts fans. We’ve become the “small-window” team when it comes to competing for Banner #18, and that window is closing. It hurts to see the potential end to something that has been so great for the city of Boston. I guess now all you can do is keep your fingers crossed.

Hey, Hey, Hey…Good-Bye

I can only blame myself for being upset today. This lockout’s been a rollercoaster ride from the beginning. I’ve had days when I doubted the potential season and days when I was so optimistic I thought it would be resolved on the spot. Finally, over the last few weeks I’ve resorted to mere hope, and for that I consider myself foolish. The whole situation is horrendous with millionaires fighting billionaires. Here’s a tip for both sides. Owners (who I put most of the blame on for this whole deal): You have already won the battle. Your employees have sacrificed millions of dollars to make you happy/make up for your OWN losses, and it still wasn’t enough. Players: You are getting paid to play a sport that you love and that others love watching you play.  As whole, this league needed the lockout to result in a season more than ever. Both sides have let down a countless number of workers who rely on NBA games for their livelihood and millions of fans who have given countless amounts of money over the past century to see you guys play. Sad day in history for the NBA. Sad, sad day.

Looming Doomsday

The NBA Lockout: A matter that aggravates just about everyone who enjoys basketball. I’ve been trying to avoid talking about the lockout because in hindsight, nothing has been going on. It’s been an endless cycle of scheduling meetings, “hope” from inside sources, meetings running 15+ hours for three days straight, even more “hope”, then it all blows up within hours and sides are even further apart, repeat. Now I could go into the details about the BRI and the entire CBA discussions but there’s no use. The owners have already won this lockout in a landslide victory. Now they’re just rubbing it in. Chris Mannix (@ChrisMannixSI) of SI.com dives into the details in his article, “Owners to Blame if Season’s Lost”. And on a side note, the second to last paragraph is on point! If a deal isn’t made today, you can kiss the season goodbye.
