New Season, New Rules

Three things as a result of the shortened NBA season:

1. John Wall will have his coming out party. Due the fact that this kid has more athleticism than just about anyone who has entered the league in the last decade – besides Yoa Ming of course – the shortened season will help him come out of the gates hot. Building off of his incredible second half performance last year, 17+ points and 8+ assists per game( look it up), this guy is going to come out of the gates like Seabiscuit.

2. Oklahoma City will cruise. Okay, so everyone is talking about how the shortened season will benefit the vets because they will have more poise and know how to manage the ups and downs better. With that being said, I am very excited to see how the San Antonio Spurs – who have a mean age of 46 – are going to hold up with back-to-back-to-back games. I love the Spurs, don’t get me wrong, but Oke City is young, fast, and healthy. These guys have the mojo and the scorers to flat out beat teams with their pace.

3. The Miami Heat will win the NBA Title. I mean, I know how much everyone out here loves Lebron… why wouldn’t you? This guy knows how to make a classy exit, perform in the 4th quarter and announce the unprecedented 8-peat – what’s not to like? Son of a bitch. Okay seriously now, I hate to announce it here on BSB, but I can’t get away from it. The shortened season, coupled with the fact that the Heat gelled late last year is a recipe for success. The 66 games will give guys like Dwayne Wade, who still have some left in the tank, the ability to push themselves more down the stretch. Athleticism and the ability to stay injury free will be critical this season.

It may be “un-BSB” of me to post this, but I’m a Pacer fan (at least we have Larry Bird), so I really have no hope whatsoever.

To: NBA Fans – Love: D. Stern

First of all, did anyone even know the two sides were meeting today? Did anyone care? Yeah, me neither, but at 3 am I find out 15 hours of meetings have ended in a joint press conference? Good news! Silver and hunter together. It’s on!! Minutes until the announcement is made but it looks like a season will start on December 25….Merry Christmas!

Celtics Game Day – Mock Season

The C’s come home tonight atop the Atlantic Division to play the Toronto Raptors at the Garden. In the middle of a busy week of games, the Celtics are coming off of two straight wins after losing two in Florida. With a lot of hype coming from the B’s game in Buffalo, the 8-2 Celtics hope to keep the momentum going into the Thanksgiving weekend.

Fight Club

They certainly weren’t playing in the Garden or wearing Celtic green, but Rondo and Pierce were in town this weekend for a charity game at Harvard University. Unfortunately, news of a scuffle took precedent over the event, and it too was certainly not on the court or while wearing the Celtic green.

If you haven’t heard already, early Saturday morning Rondo was allegedly part of an altercation while leaving a night club in downtown Lowell. By altercation I mean there was some pushing as a crowd shuffled out of the club (that never happens), and one person ended up swinging at Rondo, supposedly unknowingly. The nightclub, Brian’s Ivy Hall, had been hosting an event featuring the Celtics star, accompanied by a few other notable NBA stars including Nate Robinson, Rudy Gay, and Josh Smith. Apparently there was no report of intoxication by the alleged attacker in the police write up, nor was Rondo drinking at all that night. Now I’ll be the first to admit inebriated decisions are completely null and void, but soberly making the decision to go after a hometown star, accompanied by other NBA stars and several rather large body guards (could be an understatement), probably wasn’t the best way to confront the issue, that is, unless Micky Ward had his back. Gotta love downtown Lowell.

Celtics Game Day – Mock Season

After a strong start to the season, the Celtics found trouble on the road in Florida this past week, losing two straight to the Heat and Magic. A Sunday win at home is exactly what the squad needed on this incredible late November day. The C’s went up against an outmatched Golden State team that just couldn’t hang with the big boys. The win today puts them back on track heading into the big Thanksgiving week.

Celtics Game Day – Mock Season

The red hot Celtics are bringing their talent to South Beach tonight in a highly anticipated national broadcast against Lebron James and the Heat, who also have yet to see a loss. The C’s aim to shut down LJ and Wade en route to snagging their 3rd straight win on the road and 7th overall. With two explosive offenses, this should be a high scoring event. Clear your schedule for the evening. You’re not going to want to miss this one!
