Just as I stated yesterday while writing about the Bruin’s, the team has announced that they have continued to be in talks with multiple players in order to keep the core together for many years to come. They did so today by announcing that they have agreed to a new contract with star forward Tyler Seguin. The deal is averaged out to be $5.75 million over the next six years. He
was supposed to be a free agent after this season.

Bruin’s Notes
Bruin’s GM Peter Chiarelli confirmed late last week that their annual rookie camp and tournament have been cancelled for this season due to the expiring CBA and potential lockout. As of now, the regular camp is still set to begin on September 17th.
He also said that he is in talks with other soon-to-be restricted free agents after extending Brad Marchand’s contract last week. He would not specify who he has been in negotiations with but Tuuka, Lucic, and Seguin are all set to be Restricted Free Agents after next season (assuming we have one). Who would you lock up first?
Bruins Get Blanked
Senators goaltender Robin Lehner (20 years old) made himself known to the Bruins faithful last night when he registered 32 saves and his first career shutout. Young defenseman (21 days younger than me, hard to believe) Erik Karlsson tallied the only goal for Ottawa on a gift powerplay. Tyler Seguin was called for a phantom interference penalty which ended up costing the B’s the game. Although, the Bruins did not exactly play their best in the first two periods (more like terrible) they came out strong in the third, but playing catch-up hockey is not this team’s strength. They are dominant when they score first, so these sluggish starts are killing them. Not to take anything away from Lehner, but the Bruins should have buried the puck on a couple of chances. Even though Lehner was great in net, guys like Bergeron and Marchand need to finish strong. After posting five goals on these guys a couple of nights ago on the road, it’s kind of unacceptable to come home and get shut-out considering Ottawa has sneakily crept up to within one point of the Northeast division leading Bruins. Ottawa has won six of seven and the B’s have lost four of six. The Bruins have a game tomorrow vs. the Devils and Saturday vs. the Islanders before a big showdown with the New York Rangers on Sunday afternoon. I would like to see this team get a little momentum heading into a potential Eastern Conference finals matchup, by winning these next two by reestablishing their checking game, outskating their opponents, and causing turnovers. When they stick to this formula, its plain and simple, they win games.
Bruins Winnipeg tonight @ 8
The team received some depressing news today, Rich Peverley will be out 4-6 weeks with a knee injury sustained during the Canadiens game. It was the result of a knee-to-knee collision with former B’s defenseman Hal Gill. His speed and playmaking ability will be missed but others are going to have to step up. Let’s see if the Bruins can get some momentum in the right direction after a nice win vs. the Habs. I’m expecting a strong performance from them tonight as they continue there six game road trip. Look for Pouliot to have a nice game as he is starting to gel nicely with Krejci and Looch.
In other news, Brad Marchand won’t be subject to a hearing with NHL principal Brendan Shanahan for his 2nd period hip check/clip in Montreal. No doubt he likes to play on the edge.
Projected Lineup:
Brad Marchand-Patrice Bergeron-Tyler Seguin
Milan Lucic-David Krejci-Benoit Pouliot
Josh Hennessy-Chris Kelly-Jordan Caron
Daniel Paille-Gregory Campbell-Shawn Thornton
Zdeno Chara-Johnny Boychuk
Dennis Seidenberg-Joe Corvo
Andrew Ference-Adam McQuaid
Tuukka Rask
Tim Thomas
Bruins-Habs Recap
Not the prettiest of wins, but I’ll take it. The Bruins pulled out a 4-3 shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens last night with Tyler Seguin netting the only goal of the shootout. This game was almost another mid-2000s vintage Bruins collapse after they squandered a 3-1 lead in the 3rd period thanks to some less than stellar goaltending. Ference, Pouliot and Bergeron had the tallies for the B’s. Both Pouliot’s and Berg’s goals were impressive. Take a look at Pouliot’s goal below, a definite undressing of Habs defenseman Chris Campoli, followed by Doc Emrick going nuts. There are 5 games left on this current road trip, starting in Winnipeg tomorrow night.
