Wake Up Kessel, It’s Boston

In case you missed it Wednesday morning, Brad Marchand got an unexpected prank wakeup call from a Toronto morning show. At about 7am on gameday, the radio station sent several pizzas to his hotel, and after explaining that it was a pregame ritual of his, had the front desk call Mr. Marchand’s room and wake him up. Not going to lie, pretty funny stuff. As a fan, that’s the kind of witty prank I can handle. In fact I enjoy it. operation retaliation waafCompletely different than the Toronto Stronger D-Bag from Monday’s game. Anyways, no harm no foul there. But Toronto, I’ll tell you this. You are extremely naïve if you didn’t think us Bostonians would retaliate. I mean not only were you destined to come back to our city the next day, but you have an obvious target for us to go after. Cue…Mr. Phil Kessel.

With little doubt they’d let it slide, WAAF’s Hillman Morning Show took the reins on Operation Retaliation, sending Spaz out to Toronto’s hotel this morning, fully equipped with a megaphone, bright yellow morph suit, and the support of relentless Bruin’s fans. I can only imagine the scene taking place as he yelled and taunted Kessel over the megaphone, with an army of vehicles beeping violently in the background. Absolute radio gold. Unfortunately, it only lasted about 10 minutes before our boys in blue showed up to send the annoying yellow man packing. Either way, WAAF should be posting it as a podcast later this morning so make sure you listen for yourself. Just more fuel for the fire, I love it. Great work guys. Now let’s go Bruins! Puck drops at 7:10 tonight. Happy Friday indeed!

Toronto Stronger Loser

Toronto Stronger LoserHow about this freakin guy in Toronto last night? Grade A douche. I’m all about witty slurs against an opponent, and I understand how desperate Toronto fans are after being completely irrelevant to playoff hockey for so long, but this shit won’t do. That’s not a clever jab at the Boston Bruins, that’s a sucker punch to the face of humanity. Nice job bro, instead of taunting our hockey team, you made fun of innocent men, women, and children that fell victim to a terrorist attack. I would love to see how long this Gangnam-looking jerkoff would last coming into the Garden Friday night. And congratulations Toronto, you poked the bear. #BostonStrongBoston Strong Bear

LeBron MVP

Well the Celtics season is over after a heart-breaking loss on Friday to the cocky and arrogant, New York Knicks. The next few months will really show where this organization is headed with the decisions they face with KG and Paul Pierce. However, this story is not about that. Lebron James won his 4th MVP this weekend. He became the second player to get 120 of 121 possible first place votes. Shaq did it 13 years ago. The lone voter, who decided to back Carmelo Anthony instead, was the Boston imagesGlobe’s Gary Washburn.

To me, this is ridiculous. I know everyone in Boston hates LeBron, but the main reason why he wasn’t unanimous, was because everyone thought he would be. Just so happens that it was a guy from Massachusetts to snub him. We all know that he is the best player in the league and by far the most efficient. If he took as many shots as Melo, he would be the leading scorer, but he is more than that, clearly. Plus, Melo sucked against us during the last 3 games of the series and I really thought we had a chance to steal it from those scumbags.

Kevin Garnett did receive one vote for MVP, but not a first place one. This was enough to tie him for 12th in the balloting.

A Classless Bunch

Many people are talking about the Celtics game last night. Not about the Celts pulling off another W, but for how the Knicks are acting like children. They all planned to show up in all black outfits, with the idea that this was the “Celtics Funeral”. That’s ridiculous. Not even going to mention that it is right after the marathon bombings and how disrespectful that may seem. Even when they were talking in their post-game conference,  Even after a minor scuffle (mostly trash talking) between the two teams, the Knicks looked like spoiled brats. Carmelo Anthony chimed in during his press conference saying that the reporters shouldn’t waste time writing about Jordan Crawford.images

This irritates me because Carmelo is supposed to be one of the elite players in the league. As much as everyone hates Lebron James, he never did something like this. Most stars, at least I believe, should set a good example for their fans. This was not a good move by a “role model”. Especially when that very same person is shooting 18-for-59 in his last two games. They all followed suit after Kenyon Martin suggested it.

Playoff Hockey is Back in Boston

The beast that is Chara raising the cupI don’t know about you, but I woke up this morning feeling great. May 1st has arrived and for the first time in months, it appears that New England might finally be in the clear as far snow is concerned, although I wouldn’t bet the house on it. More importantly, it’s showtime! Playoff hockey is back in Boston as the B’s open up tonight at home against the Leafs. Let’s hope they’ve been able to flip the switch over the past few days and come out firing tonight. We’ll be doing our part, as you best believe the Garden will be ROCKING. So if you have any doubt, here’s a playoff montage that will be sure to get the blood pumping. Watching these clips still give me the chills. Tonight begins our quest to get Lord Stanley back to the Hub. Let’s go B’s!

PS – Sweet “bear” mascot Toronto.
UPDATE – His name is Carlton.

First Gay Athlete

Jason Collins has come out to the public announcing just a few minutes ago that he is gay. He becomes the first active player in a major professional sport to announce this. As most know, the downloadCeltics had Collins on the roster this season before they traded him to the Wizards earlier in the year. Now, Collins is a free agent, and hopefully this will not deteriorate his value in any way.

He wrote the following for Sports Illustrated:

“Now I’m a free agent, literally and figuratively. I’ve reached that enviable state in life in which I can do pretty much what I want. And what I want is to continue to play basketball,” he wrote. “I still love the game, and I still have something to offer. My coaches and teammates recognize that. At the same time, I want to be genuine and authentic and truthful.”

It is great that he is the first major athlete to do so while still playing the game. I know there is going to be some bounce back from some players and organizations, but hopefully that is limited. It takes a lot of courage to do what Jason did. Congratulations

An Unlikely Fan

Neil Diamond is becoming a Boston Hero. First, he comes over to Fenway Park a few days after the Marathon Bombings to sing his “Sweet Caroline” song that we all know and love between innings at the park.  Yes, he was a little off key, but hey, he’s 72 years old. The thought was still there.  Don’t forget, he grew up in Brooklyn, NY. He is not a Red Sox fan.

Now, Neil Diamond is donating this week’s sales from this hit song to the victims. The track sold 19,000 times. Even the Yankees and Toronto Raptors played this song in honor of Beantown in recent days. It’s nice to see everyone loving Boston, and loving our country. Too bad it had to happen like this! Have a good Thursday everyone.

The Looch Saga

The B’s have been taking a lot of heat for a team that’s sitting in first place of their division heading into the final week of the season. And I’ll be the first to say that I’ve been right there throwing stones with the rest of the angry mob. So why are we complaining? Besides our Bostonian expectation of win it all or bust, it’s obvious that the Bruins just aren’t playing to their full potential. Come playoff time, the fumes we’ve Lucic Scratchbeen running on aren’t going to be enough to make a legitimate run at the Cup.

The sense of urgency and our ability to score has just been lacking, among other things. One of which being Milan Lucic. I love Looch, but there’s no denying his metaphorical absence. The Looch of old has been nowhere to be found on the ice this year. Lucic used to be our enforcer. Would anyone call him that right now? No. A lot of people say he’s gone soft since becoming a father, but I’m not buying it. Regardless, the Lucic we’ve grown accustom to over the years needs to return if the B’s want to win the Cup. When Milan Lucic is playing Milan Lucic hockey, the Bruins are playing Boston Bruin’s Hockey, the kind of hockey that won us a Stanley Cup in 2011.

As much as we are all complaining, things aren’t all bad. Although we are in first place, the B’s just need to pick up some momentum heading down the home stretch. And I think that starts with Looch. So here are a few throwbacks that might help build some confidence in the Milan Lucic we all know and love, so Lord Stanley can be returned to its rightful home in Beantown.

Odd European News

Liverpool Striker Luis Suarez, 26, has caused some outcry overseas. In their most recent match against Chelsea, Suarez is seen biting Defender Branislav Ivanovic on the arm. He has since apologized but not before everyone and their mother had something to say about it. As a former soccer player who always fought back against those who call Soccer a “sissy sport”, this sucks. As if there wasn’t enough diving and crying already in European Football, now there’s biting!

In completely related news, Mike Tyson is now following Suarez on Twitter. No, that’s not a joke. Tyson, who famously had his boxing license revoked after chewing off a piece of Evander Holyfield’s ear in 1997, is now a Tweet-Mate of the Uruguayan-born futbol star.
