In honor of the Bruins playing the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight, I figured we could take a trip down memory lane. Let’s take a look at the Eastern Conference Finals in 2011 (the year we won the Cup). It was May 14th, and Tampa Bay opened up to a quick lead and won the game 5-2 in Boston. 3 days later, we evened the series in nail-biting fashion, 6-5. The next game was when Thomas really stepped up, as he blanked the Bolts 2-0. The series went into 7 games and Boston won with a 1-0 shutout. We advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1990.
In the series, the Bruins and Lightning both scored 21 goals apiece. Tyler Seguin really stepped up his game during this series while finally getting the chance to play. After not playing for over a month, regular season and playoffs, Seguin was able to notch 1 goal and 1 assist in his first game, and 2 goals and 2 assists in the 2nd game. His energy really showed through and gave this team the spark they needed. Krejci played big when they needed him, putting in 5 goals, including a game 6 hat-trick. Tim Thomas had 206 saves in this series with a .916 Save Percentage.
